Happy New Year!

Colder Days and Holiday Reflections

Happy New Year from Little Farm! The growing season is definitely over and it’s pretty quiet around here right now. Mostly a time of rest and renewal, but I did coerce my sons into building another raised bed into which will go another round of anemone. My part-time employee and I have been pecking away at dividing and tucking 1200 dahlias in for their winter naps. We’ve also planted about 200 more peonies, which I am so excited about!

I’ve been spending a lot of time recently reflecting and talking to people about work-life balance. As someone who has mostly only had the title  “mama”, starting a business at the age of 50-something was a bit of a shock! For the past 4 years, I’ve had a glorious time bringing everyone seasonal fresh local flowers, but I am finding it necessary to switch gears in 2026.

Wait, are you quitting the whole flower farm thing?

Not at all! I will still be growing to sell, but mainly to my wholesaler, Stemz, a female-owned company which supplies floral designers all across the Carolinas. I am streamlining what I grow to focus on a few main crops - anemone, ranunculus, peonies and dahlias as well as flowering shrubs such as hydrangea. That said, I have a few other loves such as zinnias which aren’t going anywhere, in addition to an embarrassingly large inventory of perennial bloomers accrued over the past 25 years!

Can I still purchase Little Farm flowers?

Absolutely! I just won’t be delivering them.

Beginning next spring I’ll have flower shares, mostly for the key crops above, for sale on my website with pick up on my front porch in Concord. You should see the cute little flower cart I’ve got ready to go! I’m still working out the details but look for an email in early spring, along with regular emails at the peak flush times for each crop. I will still offer mixed buckets and larger special orders for DIY/event work, as well as the ever popular flower bar option!

Do you have any other plans for the farm?

We sure do!  Occasional workshops or events at the farm are also in the works now that we have a acceptable restroom facility for visitors :-) I am talking to other creatives out there about possibilities for on-farm events such as yoga, flower arranging or wreath workshops. Looking ahead (probably 2027), I’m hoping for one big spring event focusing on peonies and one big fall event focusing on dahlias. So stay tuned!

What’s not going to change is my commitment to bringing you the freshest local flowers possible!

It’s been an emotionally satisfying and incredibly gratifying 4 years of growing specialty cut flowers to SELL... Mostly to YOU! I thank you for your support and I hope to see you again in 2026!

Fondly, Teri
